COVID-19: What To Do At Home During Quarantine

In the days and weeks ahead, we expect to see the number of cases, the number of deaths, and the number of affected countries climb even higher. WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction. We have therefore made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic.said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General in a media briefing on March 11, 2020.

According to Wikipedia, a pandemic is a disease epidemic that has spread across a large region, for instance multiple continents, or worldwide. It is an epidemic occurring on a scale that crosses international boundaries, usually affecting a large number of people.

As days passed, COVID-19 number of confirmed cases and confirmed death are increasing in various countries including Philippines. On March 16, 2020, President Rodrigo Duterte declared the entire Luzon under “Enhanced Community Quarantine” and “Stringent Social Distancing Measures”.

This aims to contain the outbreak and to further combat the effect of the continuing and increasing spread of COVID-19. It took effect on March 17, 2020 and will end on April 14, 2020. As a result, restriction on the people’s movement, closure of establishments of non-essential shop and businesses and travel restrictions are being enforced.

Checkpoints for checking the motivation for travels, banning of public events and mass gatherings, closure of schools and universities are also observed.

How to Cope With This Community Quarantine

During this crisis, no one is rich or poor. Anyone can suffer from this pandemic disease. The only request from the government is to stay at home. There are numerous things that you can do at home during this quarantine.

Stay At Home and Spend Quality Time With Your Family

Cherish the moment and enjoy the companionship of each family member. Catch this opportunity to bond with your family. Playing board games for instance to pass time is one great way of bonding. You may also prepare snacks and meals together. Have fun! Watch movies and K-drama on Netflix. This is a perfect time to do all the things you’re planning to do at home but you do not have time before.

Reconnect and Communicate with Friends

The advantage of this lockdown is that it is not associated with storms or power outages making Wi-Fi a gift. So stay and keep in touch with your long lost friends via phone, email, text, and/or social media. Ask them how they are once in a while and remind them to keep safe always.

Plan Future Trip/Travel

You probably didn’t get along with your planned trips to celebrate the special occasion with your family and friends. Reward Yourself – Eat, Sleep, Repeat

You only live once so live your life to the fullest. Cook your favorite dish and eat together with your family as if it is a celebration of special occasion you missed to celebrate. It is also a great time to recharge yourself and recover from sleepless days. Get enough sleep and forget about waking up early. Unless you need to work from home.

Pray and Reflect

As the bible passage says “Go home, my people, and lock your doors! Hide yourselves for a little while until the LORD’s anger has passed.” -Isaiah 26:20. At this time of crisis, the only effective way is prayer and faith in our Almighty God. Thank Him for all the blessings and for the gift of life. Ask for forgiveness of all our sins. And above all, pray for COVID-19 to end soon.

Take Care of Yourself

It is very important to take care of yourself during this situation. Boost your immune system to protect your body from virus and bacteria. Practice proper hygiene by using sanitizer, alcohol, and/or washing your hands before and after eating and after using the toilet. Eating right and proper nutrition can boost our immune system. The fact that COVID-19 causes a lot of negative impact, we should then have a positive mindset to overcome these challenges during quarantine period. Everything happens for a reason and we can always learn from this experience. We’re all in this together. Keep the faith!
