Garlic and Herb Cream Cheese Dip
I’m a big fan of cream cheese and as we all know it comes with an expensive price tag. My love for cream cheese started back 10 years ago. It was Pan de Manila’s Herb Cream Cheese that captured my taste buds. During that time the famous bakeshop has limited branches only and majority of which was only in Metro Manila. To satisfy my cravings I tried to replicate their herb and cream cheese. However after my first attempt I got the taste but I failed with the consistency. I serve my garlic and herb cream cheese dip during one of our small family gathering and it was a hit. That’s how I discover this recipe by accident.
What is Cream Cheese?
I used to think all cream cheese were the same. Each one, is just a white brick of a creamy spread so mild in flavor to call it a cheese. Cream cheese are made from unskimmed cow’s milk. It is a fresh, soft and mild tasting cheese. The cheese has a high fat content since it is manufactured using a combination of cream and milk.
In the US where cream cheese originated fat content should be at least 33% while in Britain it should be a minimum of 45-65%. Cream cheese has a sweet taste and slightly tangy. There are also a lot of varieties including those with herbs while some are blended with fruits. Though cream cheese are popular for desserts, frostings and dips it is also widely use in sweet and savory dishes.
Magnolia Cream Cheese from pasteurized processed cheese made from soft, unripened cream cheese is one of my choices. This brand is great for dessert such as blueberry cheesecakes.
While Emborg cream cheese has high spread-ability which makes it ideal for spreading on breads, bagels or crackers.
Similarly, Philadelphia cream cheese are also made from fresh milk and real cream, it has added preservatives flavors or dyes which is best for cooking. You may also try their recipes available here.
