Progress is everywhere in Lipa City. In Tambo particularly, lots of establishments opened and we now have so many options specially for restaurants. Be it Korean, Japanese or Chinese food! Yakimix continuously serves Japanese cuisine for almost a year now in Lipa Town Center. Across it is the Den Building where Samgyupsalamat is located. In search for delicious food again for our date night, my husband and I went for unlimited Japanese barbeque at Sumo Niku Lipa Town Center in Tambo, Lipa City.

It was a Monday night, the restaurant still had some tables empty when we arrived. We only had to wait few minutes for them to set the table. The receptionist gave heads up early on that the left over price is Php 250 per person. And that we, of course, cannot take out the left over food. Same unlimited course must be ordered per table. And that they charge extra for drinks except for water. She added that we can only stay up to three hours.

It’s basically same as Samgyupsalamat’s, four people can sit per table. Some tables were arranged closely together but separated by screens. There were about 20 tables or so. It’s not so spacious unlike Yakimix and Samgyupsalamat. The tables were even a bit smaller I think but comfortable enough for group of four.

I was expecting Samgyupsalamat’s table setting, complete side dishes, sauces, rice, soup and even iced tea. But to my surprise there were only plates, chopsticks and sauces. We had to order the side dishes and 4 meats at a time. There were pencils and several papers with checklist on the table that we had to fill up each time.

  4. Spicy Pork Belly
  5. Unmarinated Pork Belly
  6. Pork Belly with Teriyaki Sauce
  7. Pork Tenderloin
  8. U.S. Premium Beef Thin Cut
  9. U.S. Premium Beef with Teriyaki Sauce
  10. Wagyu Beef
  11. U.S. Marinated Beef
  12. Golden Mushroom Beef Roll
  13. Teriyaki Chicken
  14. Japanese Spicy Chicken

The receptionist informed us that they already ran out of pork belly thin cut and U.S. marinated beef. We arrived 7PM, three hours before closing and 2 meats were no longer available. I hope they improve their inventories as it may be disappointing to some.

They served frozen meats although it didn’t look like an old stock. We can tell by the color of the meat. Because of that, it took a little longer to cook than what we’re used to. I do like their smaller serving of meats. You can try more variants and you can finish it all even if you don’t like the taste or texture. I liked the U.S. premium beef thin cut and golden mushroom beef roll. Perfect match with sauces: hot chili paste, thick sweet teriyaki soy sauce, and seasoned sesame oil.

Sumo Niku Lipa Town Center Side Dishes and Other Unlimited Choices

  1. Mozzarella Cheese
  2. Rice
  3. Buttered Corn
  4. Coleslaw
  5. Potato Marble
  6. Sweet Potato
  7. Cheese Balls
  8. Seaweeds
  9. Cucumber
  10. Lettuce
  11. Kimchi

For the side dish, I didn’t like the small servings. I ordered more of the cucumber, lettuce and potato marble but it’s like 3 pieces per serving. Such a hassle to order 3 of the same each time. Serving side dishes by request instead of serving all at once is a good idea because some may be left untouched. Such a waste, right? But I hope they add a little bit more per serving.

Probably I compared it too much with Samgyupsalamat, which I think I slightly prefer than Sumo Niku, to be honest. But overall, I still enjoyed it and I will give it another try. Next time, I will ignore the tiny flaws and focus on tasteful and delicious unlimited Japanese barbeque.
